ROCCO
+ Amaury Réot Down The Rabbit Hole
Emio Greco was born in 1965 in Brindisi, and draws inspiration from his Italian origins for his plays. After his first creations – Bianco, Rosso and Extra Dry –, he produced a trilogy based on the Divine Comedy, with his company EG | PC, which he founded in 1995 with Pieter C. Scholten. Rocco was inspired by Visconti's eponymous film, by boxing and by fraternal rivalries throughout mythology and history. The stage creation, that doesn't negate the term "extremalism" – a term coined for the former Jan Fabre performer's explosive theatre plays –, features a double duo, performed in three rounds. Controlled movements, like concepts, give rhythm to a succession of scenes from the most intimate to the most extravagant, evoking Mohammed Ali's poetic description of boxing: "Dance like a butterfly, and sting like a bee".
