ENGLISH

On his 1st ever European tour, legendary Funky ROB is backed by an all-star cast of great musicians playing in bands like Ebo Taylor, Embryo, Jimi Tenor, Karl Hector and the Malcouns... to only mention a few!

ROB is one of the most enigmatic figures of the Ghanaian and West-African 1970's scene. His stand-out track "Make It Fast, Make it Slow" and the two rare and sought after albums he recorded in 1977, have raised him over the years to legendary status. And he has also been sampled by the likes of J Dilla.

«Funky Rob Way» and «Make It Fast, Make It Slow» belong to the best and most sought after Afro-Funk albums. Rare copies exchanged hands between collectors for hefty prices, and have been thankfully reissued by ANALOG AFRICA, Mr Bongo and Soundway in past years.

BIO:

ROB was born in 1949 in Accra, Ghana. After moving to Benin, Rob learned to play the piano at a music school in Cotonou and later on cut his teeth with the local great music bands such as Orchestre Poly-Rythmo or The Black Santiagos, an experience which he took back home after learning music composition.

Rob returned to Ghana where he began to write his own songs and sought the backing of a band, specifically one that had the horns section he was craving for to play a groove sound reflecting his love for American giants like James Brown, Otis Redding and Ray Charles. The band, Mag-2, was lead by the talented Amponsah Rockson, Despite Rob's training and musical education, Amponsah was responsible for the majority of the compositions, such as building the chord progression and arranging the horns. Together they hatched a fierce, deep funky sound blending a blazing horn section clearly nodding to the JBs, with spaced-out Moog and a deadly rhythm section!
