« Interactions in Microbial World » by Gamze Gülez – 18:00
Dear friends,
Utopiana invites you to follow a cycle of interventions that will extend throughout the year 2018, under the theme « Co-Existences », to explore different ways of living our relationships with other living.
Microbial life is rich, both in terms of species diversity and interactions. Like human beings they exhibit competitive and cooperative behaviors. Gamze Gülez will show us examples of how microorganisms make coordinated decisions, exchange information, kill each other, exploit each other, cooperate and co-exist. At the end, she hopes that her talk will not only make us curious about the fascinating life of microorganisms but will also make us you think about what we can learn from them about ourselves: could microorganisms give us hints about how to live our lives? Her talk will be accompanied by an exhibition showing images of microbial species in competitive or cooperative interactions.
*Gamze Gülez est ingénieure et docteure en microbiologie. Spécialiste en génie environnemental, elle est diplômée de la Middle East Technical University à Ankara, en Turquie (Bachelor), de la North Carolina State University aux États-Unis (Master) et a également obtenu un doctorat en microbiologie des eaux traitées à la Technical University of Denmark. Actuellement en poste à l’EPFL, elle poursuit ses recherches post-doctorales sur les mécanismes de la morphogenèse des bio lms.
Co-Existences est conçu par Stefan Kristensen (philosophe) et Luca Pattaroni (sociologue), tous deux membres du Comité d’Utopiana.
