Jo Styline’s career got under way in the late 1980s with the discovery of FM radio. He spent his evenings listening to the radio and recording his favourite pieces (ranging from Italo disco to New Wave) on cassettes. His brother’s new Philips hi-fi boasted a double-deck cassette player, so he could record his favourite pieces one after the other without a break. First mixes!.... In 1992, his musical dream came true, as he was propelled to the DJ spot at legendary Lausanne club La Dolce Vita. He surfed acid jazz and funk, introducing the public to original pieces sampled with rap..... Gradually, he drifted towards mixing techniques with an increasingly electronic beat. In 2000, he was scheduled at legendary clubs such as Le MAD and D! Club in Lausanne, where he spun Drum & Bass and Intelligent Jungle sounds. Ever sniffing out new sounds, he developed a personal, more minimalist style with German influences..... In 2002, Jo Styline founded the “Aquaplaning” collective, teaming up with others who were busy on the electronic scene. Stunning venues, the sheer creative flair of the visual projections and the originality of their flyers soon made “Aquaplaning” nights highly popular in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. Internationally-famous DJ often came along including Plastique de Rêve (DFA, Turbo), DJ Crowdpleaser (Mental Groove, Deeply Rooted House) and DJ Lemercier.....In early 2007, Jo Styline and his collective gained a residency at an up-coming club, La Ruche. On top of acting as DJ, he also took on the role of promoter. Losoul (Playhouse), DJ ATA (Playhouse, Robert Johnson), ND_Baumecker (Freundinnen, Berghain), DJ Steffi (Klaxon, Panoramabar), Vera (Oslo Records), Marcus Worgull, (Innervision, Sonar Kollektiv), Strobocop (Karaoke Kalk Pets) and Lysander (Mental Groove, Deeply Rooted House) were among the star DJs doing stints at La Ruche on “Aquaplaning” nights.....Since 2008, Jo Styline has been invited regularly as DJ to events such as Cinéma Tous Ecrans (the Geneva International Film Festival), 360° Fever gay nights and Tutti Frutti nights..... His current trend has a solid electro-house and deep-house base with influences from Disco, Nu-Disco and 80s New Wave. Jo Styline rings subtle changes in styles yet always remains true to the groove. His energetic, often offbeat performances make him a powerhouse DJ highly popular on the dance floor...
